SGA Tour (Vic) - November 7 2010 - Long Island Country Club
The 19th Victorian SGA Tour event for 2010 was held at Long Island CC with players competing for over $500 of prizes and Order of Merit points for Tour members. Thanks to Social Golf Australia sponsors Wilson Staff and bwired and to Ash Turner from Annex Specialised Packing & Warehousing for being the Vic Tour Event Sponsor and contributing to the prize pool for the day. Below we see Neil Hocking looking on as Peter Rowe (obscured) plays his second shot after a cracking drive down the par five 5th hole. Pete picked up some valuable points in the Order of Merit race to move into contention to qualify to compete for the Tour Championship.
The Tour event was single Stableford and was played in mild conditions with overcast skies and a flukey breeze that bobbed up a different times to make scoring a challenge. The course was presented in great condition and the slick greens proved a challenge for many players. Below we see Peter Rowe taking a lash at his drive on the picturesque par four 11th hole. It is a great risk and reward hole for the longer hitters if they choose flirt with the superb fairway bunkering down the left side.
We had a regulation spread of scores with just one player in the small field scoring better than nett par. It was a close finish with just four shots between 2nd and 10th place. When the results were in, it was regular Tour player Darren Jones who took the bikkies in first place with 37 stableford points. Two shots back was Cindy Wisseling and another shot back in 3rd was David Judge who scored 34 points. It was an interesting day for results in the Order of Merit as the competition heats up for the race to get inside the top 20 and qualify to compete for the Tour Championship at Kingston Heath on December 14. Depending on the results in the 20th Tour event at Eynesbury on November 28 and who tees up at The Heath, any of the top 29 players are still in contention to compete for the Tour Championship. Note that for the SGA Tour Order of Merit there are no countbacks and golfers tied on the same score each receive the same OOM points. Below we see Darren Jones, Samuel Jones and Cindy Wisseling lining up their putts on the par three 120th hole.
