2015 SGA International Results

Through our partnership with Thailand Golf Tours (TGT), Social Golf Australia (SGA) has founded our first event outside Australia: The SGA International. The event was played for the first time in Pattaya, Thailand from March 17 - 24, 2012 and is SGA's first annual international event. An SGA representative attends and hosts the event each year and this event has now developed into a great tournament that is a highlight of our annual event schedule.

The 2015 SGA International coincided with the Hua Hin Amateur Golf Week (HHAGW) hosted by Golf Asian and included four competition rounds of stableford. TGT hosted the HHAGW and all players attending the SGA International played in both events. In 2016, SGA will host the event indepentantly in Pattaya from February 27 to March 5. Below we the field of the 2015 event after the presentation dinner at the Amari Resort in Hua Hin.

The fantastic week of golf kicked off at the Sea Pines Resort for Round 1. The winds kicking off the ocean and slick greens made the going tough for our field, and it was Joe Bugeja who handled it best, grinding his way around the tough layout on his way to a round of 33 points. Day 2 saw the field head to the superb Springfield Royal Golf Resort, where similarly tough conditions presented themselves.

Joe Napier (40 pts) made the best of the conditions and vaulted to the top of the leaderboard at the halfway mark, alongside Bob Spicer, who had put together 2 solid rounds of golf. Round 3 saw some fantastic golf played at the amazing Black Mountain Resort, where Shaoyu Xue (gross +10 - 47 points) and Robbie O'Donnell (+3 - 46) both played personal best rounds of golf to put themselves back in contention with one round to play.

The 4th round was a similar story to the first 2 days, where scoring was tough and the layout very unforgiving. On the final day, Garry Strawbridge played his round of the week, shooting 34 points, but it was Shaoyu Xue, who in also shooting 34 points, held off the challenging pack to secure the title.

The win was his first in any form of SGA competition, and he couldn't have done it in a more fantastic location or fashion. Congratulations to Shaoyu and thanks to all our golfers for a brilliant week of golf in great company. We hope to see many more smiling faces at the end of future weeks of golf abroad.
