About the SGA Championships

SGA_100_logo.jpg

The SGA Championships is a national amateur golf championship developed, operated and owned by Social Golf Australia (SGA). The event is supported by Golf Australia and the relevant amateur governing golf bodies in each State. The event features individual awards for grade winners and a four-player team event playing stableford aggregate to determine which social club becomes the national champions. It is a stand-alone championship, but individual participants at SGA Tour events around Australia regard this as the premier annual tournament for SGA golfers and regularly make the pilgrimage to the tournament held annually on the Gold Coast.

Format

The SGA Championships is a four-round, 72-hole tournament playing single stableford with A, B, C & Ladies Grade with over $25K of prizes. There is also a side competition for extra trophies and prizes for a four-player team event playing stableford aggregate. The event is played over six days (starting with a pre-event optional warm-up round, and a mid-event rest day, also with an optional round of golf).

History of The SGA Championships

Founded in 2005 as The Australian Social Golf Club Championships (ASGCC) at Palm Meadows on the Gold Coast, the SGA Championships has attracted social golfers from around Australia every August to compete for the national title.

In 2007, Event HQ took over management of the event and from 2009, SGA began management of the event in partnership with Event HQ and Palm Meadows. In 2016 we decided to rebrand the event The SGA Championships. The same year we were pleased to welcome Srixon and Cleveland Golf as our equipment partners and in 2017 we commenced with Garmin as our technology partner and one of the major sponsors of the tournament.
